In the remote village of Kandas-Vihear, Cambodia, twice-monthly visits by Pastor San and his wife provide spiritual and medical care for the villagers there. The school becomes a clinic with medicine and a sick bay. A tarp outside the school becomes the clinic floor. Teachers from a nearby town help with the medical care and translation. They have become an important part of the medical assistance to this community.
After their first visit, we received the following report from Beatrice and Juanito (our ministry partners):
As planned, we started from Phnom Penh at 7am, arrived at Broyouk and picked up the teachers on the way to Kandas. When we arrived, the villagers including children were already gathered by Pastor San and the deputy village leader. After a brief introduction, there was an opening prayer then the medical consultation by the pastor. Beatrice helped in the distribution of medicines and treatment of some wounds. Most of the complaints were headaches, cough, colds, fever, diarrhea, muscle pain and body weaknesses.
Besides giving them medicines, we think that it is important that we do health teachings for personal hygiene sanitation [Community Led Total Sanitation], clean water and disease prevention. Hoping that a breastfeeding mothers group will be organized to learn basic health teachings like how to take care of their babies when they are sick, etc.
Thanks for giving us the privilege to help in Kandas- Vihear.
Blessings, Juanito/Beatrice
The physical and the spiritual go hand in hand, at least while we are on this earth. So much of Jesus' ministry was focused on healing the lame, the blind, the disease-ridden. There was an emphasis on physical wellbeing, as well as spiritual wellbeing. Both are important, and we work to maintain both aspects of every person we encounter. So while we certainly pray for healing and believe that God can and does heal us physically, we also actively work to bring that healing about.
