As goes the old saying, it's often the simple things that make a world of difference. If, for instance, one morning we wake up and realize the water in the sink isn't running, well, the whole day is ruined. Water from a faucet seems so simple - it makes our lives so convenient we hardly think twice about it. So many people live without these conveniences. So when the village leader of Kandas Vihear in Cambodia had only two requests of us, we were humbled:
The two requests were this: a latrine built near the school on higher ground and a fence around the school to prevent squatters.
A toilet and a fence. So seemingly simple and yet so foundational to how a village community functions. We were deeply humbled and honored to help provide these necessities. The villagers even helped build the toilet, thus decreasing the costs.
