Education...
to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins

We are being called to replace a school building in Spean da Cambodia, meaning “wooden bridge”. The need is great and the cost is high, but we continue faithfully and prayerfully, knowing that these little ones will have their school building one day.

You see, the need for a solid and secure school building is great. The village elders report that 135 students (62 girls and 73 boys) meet as one class with one teacher in this one-room building. The roof leaks when it rains. Children fear for their safety during heavy winds. I imagine that it would be difficult to learn with the wind knocking on your door, or water dripping into your head. We care for the learning of each child, and we wish to promote good and healthy learning environments. And so we pray and we will build.

We estimate a minimal cost of $12,000 to construct - with local labor - a multi-room classroom building, install desks, marker boards and cabinets. We will also need to secure educational materials for teachers and students.  A project coordinator will also work with village leaders to secure additional government teachers. It is a long process ahead of raising money, collecting supplies, and then building the school house. But it is worthy of the time and effort and money.

We call to mind Jesus' special love for the little ones. We call to mind Jesus' admonitions to not be anxious about tomorrow - not to worry what we will wear, or where will lay our head. God cares for the sparrows and the lilies, and he most definitelly cares for these children. So we act faithfull and hopefully, knowing that our efforts to give these children a better learning enviornment will not be in vain.
