The Emanuel Christian School can be found in the Buddhist village of Broyouk, Cambodia. The village is growing, classes are in session and in more ways than one, the teachers and staff are looking for educational activities that go beyond the school walls.
The compound is alive. On weekday afternoons one will see older youth and adults pedaling into the compound for afternoon English classes. But the community recognizes that learning is not only in books; not only in the classroom. More and more, both teachers and students are seeking to learn outside of the classroom, and in the process they are building community and having fun. For example, young Broyouk boys and girls have formed soccer teams - and they are quite good! They more than hold their own in the arena. It is a time of community and bonding and healthy competition. It is a time of fellowship and fun. Furthermore, many of the teachers in the village also serve as leaders in the larger community. Life here is multi-dimensional and we rejoice in that. We take the classes very seriously, but social learning and growing is also taking ahold of the students and teachers and producing good fruit.
