In Sagubo, Philippines, ten local students are learning the art of basic carpentry. Slowly but surely, these students are learning to craft tables, chairs, benches, and cabinets. And what a valuable skill this is proving to be.
The furniture these students make are, as of right now, going to furnish a new Practical Skills Center in the village. In the future, however, this skill will no doubt help these families provide for their basic needs. There is so much power and long-term goodness in taking time to teach practical skills. Sure, money could have been fundraised and furniture could have been bought for this new center, but the skills that these new carpenters are learning will far outlast any piece of furniture that could be bought. It is far more valuable and far more beneficial to the long-term goals of this village. In the future, we hope to not only teach carpentry, but all sorts of other practical skills as well.
