The Practical Skills Center in Sagubo, Philippines is thriving. One of the skills that is taught there is tailoring techniques. Single parents, including widows, widowers, and those who have been abandoned, come to the village from thirteen outlying mountain villages. They hike, sometimes two hours each way, to the little hall in Sagubo every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to improve these skills.
The class is really improving! So far, fourteen students have graduated from beginning sewing classes, and eight students have graduated from the first advanced tailoring class. At the end of their course, they pay for a portion of a sewing machine which they then get to take home to being sewing and mending for their families and neighbors. In this way, the knowledge has a domino effect. One person learning to sew can influence a whole other mountain village. This is exactly our goal in teaching these skills and Lord willing, it will continue.
